An investigation was underway at the University of Connecticut on Friday after a student fell from the top of a parking garage on campus to his death.
Campus police and fire department personnel were called just after 9:30 a.m. on Friday to investigate an incident at the South Garage on Jim Calhoun Way, the Hartford Courant reported. They ultimately determined a man fell from a “high level” of the parking garage and onto the pavement below, according to school officials.
He was rushed with serious injuries to Windham Hospital, where he died shortly after arrival, said UConn spokeswoman Stephanie Reitz. His name has not been released, but Reitz confirmed he’d been an undergraduate student at the school.
Around 10 a.m., campus police sent out a notification, informing students there was no ongoing threat or danger to the campus community.
“The University extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends, and is providing support and resources to other students with whom he was connected,” Reitz said in a statement. She added that support services will be provided to those who need it.
So far, authorities “have found no criminal or suspicious element,” but an investigation into the matter is ongoing, the statement said.
The student’s cause of death has not yet been confirmed and will be determined by the Office of the State Medical Examiner.
